Cheap Vintage 4×4: 1967 Land Rover IIA
There are a few ways to make your driveway instantly cooler with a solitary vehicle acquisition, and the addition of a vintage Land rover is one of them. The long wheelbase Rovers with four full doors are hard to come by, especially when they’re as cheap as this one is. Listed for sale in Western Massachusetts, the Land Rover is a desirable Series IIA model which is in many ways the purest expression of what owning an old Land Rover is all about. Fitted with a full-length cargo rack and a Warn electric winch, the Rover is a project with some rust and a currently frozen clutch. Find it here on craigslist in Otis, Mass., for $3,300 and sold with a clean title. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Bill C. for the find.
The seller notes the frozen clutch is due to inactivity, so that gives you some indication as to how often this old Rover is driven. The seller pledges to work on freeing up the clutch before the next owner takes it home, so hopefully it’s an easy fix. The Rover wears the iconic “GB” sticker on the fender, possibly an indication this example spent a portion of its life overseas before coming stateside as it’s required for European drivers to have a sticker affixed indicating the registration country. Of course, plenty of people just slap this on as a novelty item, too. I love the old-school winch and driving lamp.
This is perhaps the most iconic design for a Land Rover, immortalized in movies, commercials, and of course, by Land Rover users themselves, who tend to take on an identify not unlike Indiana Jones when driving one. The seller mentions that there is rust to contend with, but doesn’t get into the details about where it is hiding. Given the low asking price, I’m inclined to believe it is significant; however, there’s nothing overt in the photos that tells me it’s a rust bucket. It’s a bit of a drive out to Otis, Mass., from most places, but if you’re in the Berkshires, it could be worth a look.

Is there such a thing as a cheap Land Rover?
Agree, it is suspicious that it is so cheap. Strange .. seems a bargain.
Is it R.H.D. or L.H.D. I’d like to know. Why aren’t they telling us?
From the picture, it’s left hand drive.
LHD as per picture one above – steering wheel visible.
Rust will be chassis as body is aluminium?
All parts are cheap and available to best of my knowledge.
It says it has a new galvanised chassis so confused now.
With a galvanized chassis at over $4k and a $1000 roof rack this has to be a scam
Definitely needs more photos.

Before Craigslist, there was a New England regional classified magazine called The WantADvertiser. It came out each Tuesday. My local vendor started putting his copies out on Monday evening. I surprised quite a few sellers by scooping up “unadvertised” specials. Those were the days. This Rover was a steal, no matter the condition. Given the readership of CL, if the price is right you won’t have to wait long for the phone to ring.
