Choo Choo Custom: 1986 Chevy El Camino SS
Rocco B found this 1986 Chevrolet El Camino SS for sale in Middleburg, Florida. It is listed for sale here on Craigslist for $25,000. The car looks to be in good shape and has 147,000 miles on it since new. It has been garage kept and well maintained since new according to the seller. The grey on grey El Camino is said to still sport its factory paint. This car is one of less than 5,000 custom El Caminos built by Choo Choo Customs, Inc. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Choo Choo version of the El Camino was an appearance package. The ad has been up for about a week.
Choo Choo Custom El Caminos began life as a regular El Camino riding on rally wheels and sport mirrors. Choo Choo Customs replaced the stock El Camino fascia with a Monte Carlo SS soft front end and added decals on all four sides. The seller states that this car is powered by a 350 cubic inch V8 engine. However, my understanding is that all Choo Choos had the high output 305 cubic inch V8 that came in the Monte Carlo SS. The seller states that the car has new exhaust, shocks and battery. The air conditioning is said to blow cold and all the belts and hoses were recently replaced.
As stated Choo Choo Customs, Inc. was located in Chattanooga, Tennessee that specialized in customized vans. The Choo Choo name comes from the fact that the CB radio term for Chattanooga was Choo Choo just like Los Angeles was called the Shaky Town. The interior looks excellent and the car features cruise control, air conditioning, tilt steering, power windows, power locks and has the full gauge cluster. As can be seen the car engine is backed by a column shifted automatic transmission.
For this many miles, the car looks to be in really good shape based on the pictures submitted. The original wheels have been replaced with aftermarket chrome wheels and black wall tires. Choo Choo Customs went bankrupt in 1991 but came back in the early 2000’s only to be bought by a division of Coker Tire. While there are claimed to be almost 5,000 Choo Choo Custom El Caminos built the actual number is said to be closer to 2,500 units. This particular car is priced at the upper end of the market but it may sell due to its nice condition.

To be precisely correct, Choo Choo Customs installed a nose that’s very similar, but not identical, to a Monte Carlo SS nose. They do not interchange without swapping the hood, fenders, and doors.
Thanks saved me from typing same thing.
I bought a new 87, last year, they all came with a 305, price on this one verses miles are sure on high side or like advertiser say, only 25,000😊
Wouldn’t own one, but always liked them. 🏁
I have an 85 choo choo but it is an actual el Camino SS not the base mine runs great but needs paint but it’s not worth half what this asking price is or so I thought?
Mine has many more options than this one including rear roll pan and sweet thunder side exhaust with the choo choo covers buckets seats console working cowl induction hood ac per seats power windows cruise and aftermarket satellite radio with pop out 5 inch screen for back up camera cherry wood paneled bed. Mine came with 350 turbo trans not the overdrive trans it has been replaced with a b& m street strip 350 th. Still have the original 305 but has headers Holley hurl injection and other mods. Still not a barn burner but adequate
Your “options” are just changes that have been made. The Chooch did not have roll pans.. cowl induction hood.. All 87’s came with either the 200-4r or 700r4.. both over drive. I bought my 87 Elky new and the only trans option were those two. The GN Regal came with the 200-4r so that’s what i wanted.
LOL Bolivar
First off mine is an 85 and came with 350 TH
And choo choo offered a whole range of options that could be added to their basic package including rocker covers for fake side exhaust, real side exhaust with electric cut outs, roll pans , fake cowl hood scoop, and a bunch more I admit mine has more non choo choo items added in addition you will see choo choos with varying degrees of options and no 2 are alike
Have your cake and eat it, too. That is if you understand the point of an elCamino.
I have a pick up cause i need it to pull the fifthwheel but i don’t like pick ups .
I have convertible for nice warm day cruises and i have a suv as an everyday/winter wad warrior
I don’t know what i would do with an elcamino but i have always liked these with the monte front and this one looks good albeit overpriced
YOLO
