Alfa Romeo Spiders aren’t exactly uncommon finds, as the company seemingly sold a ton of them when they were new. The Spider is the one Alfa Romeo model that will still appear in your local self-service junkyard fairly dependably, far more than any other Italian car. This has made it such that beater-quality examples aren’t worth very much, but nice ones still command fair money. This 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider is definitely a case of the latter, said to be a barn find from Cape Cod that now resides in Florida. For a car from a northern community to still look this good, it was almost certainly used as a summer car only. Find the Spider here on eBay with bidding over $7,000 and the reserve unmet.

The Alfa looks very nice in the somewhat poorly-framed photos that are provided. The black and white color scheme works surprisingly well on a car that often wears red paint, and actually helps to somewhat mask the bulbous U.S.-spec safety bumpers that otherwise mar the clean appearance. The Alfa is also distinctive for seemingly riding on OEM steel wheels, an unusually bare-bones look for a car that we often see riding on factory Cromodora wheels, or the Berline turbine-look rollers. The other detail that stands out is the surprisingly tight convertible top, which looks like it was installed not too long before the Alfa went into hiding.

The interior looks sharp with black upholstery and carpets, and the seller notes that mileage is believed to be original at just over 15,000! This explains why it presents as well as it does. Interestingly, we see the NA Mazda Miata show up as a weekend-only cruiser fairly often with time capsule-grade mileage, but the Alfa Spiders almost always seem to have been driven. This one is an exception to the rule, and I would certainly believe the low mileage claims given how impressively straight the body panels are and how resilient the paintwork is despite being a somewhat dull color. The lack of use is also a good reason for the reserve not having been met, especially since the seller confirms it starts right up despite looking like it’s hardly been driven.

The Alfa’s engine bay is like the rest of the car, looking quite clean with zero indication of any modifications. The seller doesn’t go into detail about its recent maintenance, simply stating that all services are up to date. This is a fairly vague claim, so I’d want to ask what sort of receipts or history files he has on the Alfa, as it was clearly a summer-only car when it resided on Cape Cod. The Alfa does retain its factory air conditioning system, but it hasn’t been converted to R134A and will need to be converted or otherwise re-filled with the old-school refrigerant. The good news? The old school Blaupunkt cassette deck still works. If you’ve been looking for a survivor-grade Alfa Spider, this could be it.
