Cameo White Project: 1973 Pontiac Trans Am

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The 1973 Pontiac Trans Am was only offered in three colors – Cameo White, Buccaneer Red and Brewster Green. This Cameo White example is clearly a project and the seller states that the engine and transmission are long gone. The car is listed here on eBay with less than 2 days remaining in the auction. Current bidding has the price at $7,500. The Pontiac Trans Am is located in Epsom, New Jersey.

The interior indicates that the car has a lot of surface rust but appears fairly solid. Amazingly, the dash is not cracked which is super common in 2nd generation Trans Ams. The car was fairly well optioned with an automatic transmission, power door locks, power windows and air conditioning. When the car left the factory, it had a white vinyl interior with red carpet.

There were two engines available in the 1973 Pontiac Trans Am. The Y code 455 cubic inch V8 engine was rated at 250 horsepower and was available throughout the year. This was the first year for the introduction of the Super Duty 455 (X code) 455 cubic inch engine which was only installed in 252 Trans Ams in 1973. Over 5,800 Trans Ams were built in 1973. This car originally came with the Y code 455 cubic inch V8 engine which produced gobs of low end torque and makes it a sought after car today.

As shown in multiple pictures, the Trans Am comes with lots of original and aftermarket parts. The car has some new sheet metal but does not come with wheels. Currently, the car is riding on Guni wheels to roll around in the shop. This car is going to need a full restoration but you get to pick the engine. Currently, I am restoring a Brewster Green 1973 Trans Am and I just sourced a 1973 Y code 455 engine and had it rebuilt to a little hotter than stock specs. I hope this car gets bought and restored and is enjoyed by the new owner.

I love the 70-73 T/A’s I had a 70 Buccaneer Red AC 4 speed car, honeycombs, AM-FM, console, and the rare heated back window, one of many I wish I never let go of.

The ‘70-‘72s were only available in blue or white. Are you sure it wasn’t a ‘73?

The “clown wheels” Are Guni shop wheels, that will bolt up to nearly any bolt pattern out there for moving vehicles around. You can actually drive on the wheels at low speeds (not on roads) to move it around. A set of those are over $700. They support over 3,000 pounds each, clear big brakes, etc. But if you own a shop, they are perfect. I wish I had a set!

I have a 73 super duty engine ZJ code that I need to sell or find a real super duty car to put into. I heard it came out of a Brewster green car.

Gonna need a ton of work and more money, but in contrast to the ugly junk being built today that have 5,390 sensors to puke, well, this is a far better investment in my opinion. One of Pontiac’s best handling and looking cars.

Jury’s out on this one. Price is a tad steep for a roller. Looks like most of the glass is missing. Suggest buying the vette at least it is all there.
