American Success: 1973 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The year 1973 was one of those years for cars that will always be remembered. Sales were great in 1973 for almost all makes and models. The Cadillac Sedan De Ville sold 103,394 models, and that didn’t include another 112,849 Coupe De Villes that were sold.  But compare that with the lowly Cadillac Calais, of which only 8,000 2 door and 4 door hardtops were sold. Here is a 1973 Cadillac Sedan De Ville for sale here on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon.

This car is a 30-year barn find that has had one repaint in the last 46 years. There is some minor rust in the back window area. Other than that, the body is in good condition. The front bumper fillers could use replacing. I’m not sure if that’s a tan vinyl top, or a very dirty white vinyl top. I tend to lean toward the later, so a good cleaning will help, while the top does appear to be in good condition.

The interior looks to be in great condition with no rips or extreme wear. The seats are covered in Harvest Yellow leather. The seller points out that the power antenna is not working, so I’m assuming the power seats, windows, door locks, and automatic climate control are working. There are no cracks in the dashboard.

The car is powered by a 472 cubic inch V-8 engine. The Sedan De Ville has had recent plugs and Pertronix ignitor, a carburetor rebuild, and front calipers. It will need a new muffler and tires. The car has 88,000 miles and the seller is asking $3,000.

This is the kind of cars successful people drove in the seventies when very few Mercedes and BMWs were around. While there were a lot of these made, I’m sure the survival rate is pretty low.  Would you like a big, comfortable American luxury car from the seventies?

This Cadillac is about equal to the Lincoln and the asking price is $3000. Much more reasonable. Good luck seller, she deserves a new home.

3000 seems very reasonable for a decent looking 73 Cadillac. Saw this white on red 73 coupe online about 2 years ago for 7k and it vanished fast. I saved a few photos of it. Had an amazing flawless red leather interior.

I had a pal who had a silver Coupe with a red
leather interior. It was amazing sensory experience to be in it.

You need one of these to protect yourself from the hordes of drivers out there with a phone glued to the side of their heads! My mother had the coupe version back in the 29 cent a gallon days.

Compare this to 8k Lada and…Oh never mind…

Wish this one would be closer, price is good. Always liked the big boats, 73 is one of my favorites of 70s Cadillacs.

…watch that “minor rust in the back window”. These bodies has a U-channel thatheld the window, with what turned out to be a highly ineffective and inefficient seal that held drained water all across the bottom. As rust progressed the water would drain into the trunk, causing even more headaches.
If it ain’t broke fix it anyway; it’ll pay off in the long run!

A beautiful car. I have been looking for a 1973 white couple DeVille and they are scarce.
