All-Weather Fun: 1990 Porsche 911 C4 Cabriolet
Could this be the perfect all-weather sports car? The fact that this is a droptop 911 ensures that it’s fun in the summer, but this one is also equipped with all-wheel-drive for some winter thrills! The Carrera 4 was Porsche’s first attempt at powering all four wheels and most agree that they did a great job. This particular example has only covered 57k miles and it appears to be in excellent condition. It’s located in Hopkins, Minnesota and is listed here on eBay where the auction ends soon.
There’s the air-cooled flat-six that made the 911 so famous. This iteration put out 247 horsepower and 228 foot-pounds of torque. That may not sound crazy when you compare it to new car specs, but Porsche knew how to put that power to good use. How about zero to sixty in 5.1 seconds? Having the engine out back helps with traction and the all-wheel-drive ensures that the performance is just as good on slick roads as it is on dry!
A convertible may not be the best choice for the dead of winter or the scorching heat of summer, but it is perfect for all the time in between. Put that top down for a springtime blast up the canyon or drop it to enjoy the sights and smells of fall. Sports cars aren’t meant to be practical, but the 911 benefits from a rear seat. That back seat may not be good for much, but if you are switching from a two-seater to this, it will feel downright roomy. This is actually one of the few cars that I can’t push the clutch all the way if the seat is all the way back!
It’s fast, tough, and relatively practical. If you still aren’t convinced of this car’s all-around greatness, you may want to read Car and Driver’s ’89 road test here. The high bid will probably be high, but this has to be one of the best drivers still out there. The mileage is low and $18k worth of service has been done! It may not be to everyone’s taste, but I challenge to come up with a better all-seasons sports car than this Carrera 4 cabriolet!

One of my dream cars although prefer Tahoe Blue. Beautiful..
The Receipt a the end of the eBay ad? OOUUUCCCHH.
Makes me really glad I can do 95% of that stuff myself….
Agree, but over the top? $96 labour to change a horn.
One born every minute ..
Yes, the seller is also the “repairer” and billed themselves at a ridiculous rate to inflate/boast the cost of repairs.
I’d also note that the top is either a poor quality selection or the installer lacking in the skills to install it correctly. Gaps under the rear and wrinkles detract from the car. Re-dyed seats? What will be the longevity of that? I also note either distinct fading or non factory(?) rear lights/Porsche reflector.
It’s a driver and not a show or collector car and I hope the buyer bids accordingly.
Well, the sales side of the Owner/Dealer has the owner/repair shop side book out every single thing done at retail cost to an unsuspecting customer. In point of fact many of the items could have been ignored and the Dealer/Seller cost is probably a fraction of the invoice.
All that said a 4 wheel drive P car vert might be a lot of fun to take skiing in the mountains of California…or anywhere!
