All Original: 1964 Chevrolet Nova Barn Find
This all original 1964 Chevrolet Nova has a lot of potential for not a lot of price. Currently, 21 bidders have put the car up to $2,125. In the description, the seller says there is a low reserve. It must have been very low because it is not indicated on the listing anymore. The car is currently located in High Point, North Carolina. A VIN is documented in the listing along with 110,000 miles and a clean title. You can view more on eBay.
This little Nova does start-up but the seller suggests replacing the brakes and tires before taking it out on the road. They have provided one photo of the inline six-cylinder engine but don’t have any other information regarding it. They also don’t specify any information about the transmission but based on the interior photo, one can quickly conclude it is a column shift automatic. Hopefully, there is not a lot of rust underneath the car after sitting out in the elements for a number of years. The body itself does not look to have much rust.
The interior is in great condition for its age. It is dirty and needs to be cleaned, but beyond that, everything looks to be complete. It had been a one-owner car up until the seller acquired it. That original first owner had taken very good care of this car for it to be in this condition today. Hopefully, someone will buy it and restore it. It shouldn’t take a whole lot of time or money to get it to that point.
This seller seems to want to flip this car as fast as possible because there are two photos of the car in an old carport with other cars, where it has been sitting for over 28 years. Then all the other photos in the listing are of the car on a trailer on the side of the road. It is almost like they barely got it off the former owner’s property and are already looking to take it to the next owner. Maybe you are that owner?

Lazy flipper looking to move these cars without doing anything.
Your right Rex, they have the Galaxie for sale also.
…..Yeah I would’nt say lazy either, He took time to get some money together, made the trip to wherever the cars are, made the deal, hauled them off, advertised them with pictures, just because He doesn’t do things some people think is the best way to sell a car to them, doesn’t mean he’s lazy, actually he might make more money by doing a quick flip, instead of trying to sell it the next 2 years the “right” way, I actually prefer to buy this way than someone who’s been sitting on a car forever at top dollar…..
@RonY. At last! Somebody that thinks like me. I have driven many hundreds of miles to inspect a car on offer, test driven it, bought it, trailered it hundreds of miles home, worked on it to make it a good runner before advertising it for sale. On some I have made little money and on others a great deal. Anybody with big enough b&lls could have done the same as me but they didn’t! Now the new owner has a good driveable car that all he had to do was to pay for it without having to do any work. I risked a lot of time, money and energy chasing cars all over South Africa in order to put bread on the table and feel that I deserve every penny that I have made by being a so called “Flipper” and I didn’t have one come back, ever.
I don’t know about a lazy flipper, I think it’s the real deal, seller is being honest,( not claiming the standard “only 10K miles”, schtick) and we don’t know the story, they may have to move the cars quick, they aren’t asking $10 grand. Not exactly the most coveted car, but great for a starter classic car, Autoplace has everything you’d need. I don’t think you could go wrong here.
HoA- right again. But a slushbox six cylinder 4 door ?…..great starter car and great for being original……but not very inspiring.
But hey, that why they have chocolate AND vanilla ice cream…….differnt stokes fer diffrent folks
That is a nice looking Nova that seems not to have be molested.
That rear mount antenna somehow makes the car look sportier…lol
This would be a great daily driver once the brakes are serviced and new tires are
installed. Might wanna think about cleaning out the fuel system to if it hasn’t
already been done. Other than that, it would be a great second car for someone. When Dad and I were flipping
cars in the ’70s, we not only got them
running, but cleaned up inside and out too. I like it even though it is a 4 door.
Would also like to have a wagon version
too. These were very comfy and reliable
for what they were and quite simple to repair. I like the Galaxie too Mike, but
they are very well known for frame rot
and that’s what would worry me most.
Both cars look great, but I’ll pick the Nova
this time. Happy New Year pal!
I put many miles on three 64 Nova’s for Courtesy Cab in Laguna Beach in the late ‘60’s while in college. All were three on the tree with the six and all had over 200k. On one the linkage was so worn if the driver didn’t stop at neutral between reverse and first the pin would jam between the forks, we carried a hammer to fix it. Pop the hood, shut down, set brake, have passenger get behind the wheel to depress clutch and push the shifter towards neutral while I whacked the linkage pin with a hammer. Would love to paint this cab yellow and take it to the annual LB auto show as a tribute car.
I bought a 1962 Chevvy 2 that had been parked for 7 years with the hand brake on. After releasing the handbrake and rolling it down the driveway with a new battery fitted, it started and ran like a watch. One week later I drove it on a 700 mile trip and had no trouble at all other than a rear brake lining coming off. It was over the Easter holiday so I glued it back on with a contact adhesive and stuck it into the oven at 300 deg. for 20 minutes and as far as I know it was never replaced until normal service was required. One magic little American car.
Back in ’75, I traded down from a Volkswagen Super Beetle that I bought new in ’72, but developed reliability problems to a ’63 Chevy ll just like this one. Drove it 9 years and 90,000 miles. They both had about the same number of miles on them. Turned out to be a definite upgrade!
I love cars. 4 doors, 2doors. Convertibles, pickup’s, sedans, coupes, hatdtops every kind I can think of as long as they’re American made pre 1970.
I once owned a 64 Chevy II just like this except mine had three speed column shift trans. It had a 194 cubic inch inline six, very basic. The 13 inch tires were very cheap to buy. It got about 25 mpg and wouldn’t die. I used to like to rev it up in second gear turn off the key then turn it back on just to hear it back fire. These cars are not for everybody but they are low dollar cars to maintain and can be fun to own.
God bless America
My first car was a 64 Chevy 2, more door with a 283, dual exhaust, 2 barrel, 2 speed auto powerglide. My folks paid $500 for it and gave it to me for a graduation present. It had 74000 miles on it without any rust. It came from Pennsylvania. I ate beans all one summer so I could pay for a repaint. I drove it for a few years then traded it for a new chainsaw and some boot money. Yup I wish I still had it!
A 64 Chevy Nova would be a small car by American 60s standards – but look how small the Honda on its right seems compared to it!
Novas aren’t excactly my cup of tea, but this one could be made into anything you want. Great cheap entry level 60s car with comfortable parts prices and availability
And how much bigger the Ford on it’s left is!
love a tqie i6 (any make / yr). Auto is good 4 me as DD, just wanna 4 or OD. Hotter carb (& cam?), discs up frnt? Nice lines (straight rather than the ‘over the wheel humps’ seen in a yr or 2). Just needs to B a waggy (no sedans or coupes)…
Nice find MrFuller, hope the price stays ‘reasonable’~
2 many doors!! Nice driver quality car though for not a lot of money!!
