Affordable Flying UTE: 1965 Ford Falcon Ranchero

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Rare, exotic, and even unusual cars are fun to look at, but I also find joy in looking at the reasonably priced runners. They can make for great projects, and can cultivate a lot of learning and knowledge. This 1965 Ford Falcon Ranchero is one of those cars, as it is a driver, and is priced reasonably at $2,500. Find it here on craigslist out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Falcon Ranchero is the perfect small useful classic in these modern days. The size is small, but the truck bed is still useful enough to haul bicycles, tools, and other items that you may need to move about. Typically simple enough to work on and maintain, the 1965 Falcons came with an array of engines. We do not know what engine is in this one, but we do know that it runs, and that it has an automatic transmission. It would be amazing if it had a 289 in it, but I am sure the seller would add such an exciting detail. I would imagine this one is powered by a 170 cubic inch inline 6. But who knows, at this point it could be anything!

Inside of this Ranchero is a very nice condition interior that looks to need nothing. Unfortunately this image doesn’t tell much more about the exterior of this car, other than it is white on the passenger side. From what can be seen the body looks nice but is obviously missing its grill.  The paint is heavily worn on the hood, but the small amount of paint that can be seen on the passenger door doesn’t appear worn, other than having some minor dirt, and a matte finish. Although you can only see but so much, there is enough here to warrant further investigation into this Ford for sure. It may not be beautiful, but a cheap classic driver almost always makes for a great project. Would you welcome this spring bird to your collection?

I’d rather push a chevy than drive a Ford. LOL

“We do not know what engine is in this one” ….”motor rehaul 6 cylinder” would seem to mean it has an overhauled 6 cylinder in typical craigslist speak.

Actually it probably had a 170 or 200.
The 200 can be built to be pretty peppy

A real effort was put into selling this one wasn’t it. Can only imagine how nice it would be to get more pics and information.

One of my car buddies has one of these Falcon Ranchero’s with a 289. This pic was taken at the Des Moines 2015 Goodguys Heartland car show.

My college roommate was undraftable and went to school 6 months and worked as a brakeman on the railroad for 6. He paid his 1/2 of the rent year round. He drove a red 1964 Falcon Ranchero with a 4 speed and a 289.

His other car was a 1953 Cadillac Hearse with 16000 miles. I was tasked with exercising the hearse for 6 months. He left a Sohio card and said only to use premium. I took my first wife many places in the hearse. 47 years later we are still married.

In 1965, a young lady left a new Olds Starfire in my care with a gas card because I had a parking spot and an honest face.No effort marks were left on either vehicle and they were always clean.

I now live in Southwest Florida but the snowbirds don’t leave me vehicles.
