At 41K Original Miles, This 1979 Camaro Z28 Is Stylin’!

Remember those pesky changes with emissions standards in the 1970’s that caused our most beloved cars to become mere shells of their former selves? It’s hard to forget, no matter how hard we try. Well, Chevrolet hit the drawing board because of this, and heavily restyled the Camaro during the decade, culminating in the best selling Camaro of its’ lifetime. With major changes in 1974 and 1978, the Camaro became wider and larger overall, and the Z28 distinguished itself with dual body pin striping. Although there is not a plethora of information available on this particular Camaro without placing a phone call, the seller states it is in excellent condition, and was recently appraised for $29K. Located in Las Vegas, NV, there’s a firm $23K price tag, and you can find it here on craigslist.com. Shout out to Pat L. for the tip.

The Camaro was Chevrolet’s answer to the Mustang, but the late 1970’s saw the Firebird and the Camaro in a world of their own for buyers looking for sportier pony cars. With refined graphics, the three piece front splitter, and an updated dashboard and instrument face, style was the name of the game in 1979. This Z28 has the classic long nose shimmering in white combined with a red pin stripe theme, and a carmine interior. The seller maintains this is one of the cleanest you’ll find, and this statement may reign true. From a distance, it looks as if it just rolled off the line. Surely, however, upon further inspection, its’ age will start to emerge. Nevertheless, second generation Camaro buyers might want to dig a little deeper and request extra pictures, or even a video if applicable, as this is a beauty.

Under the hood you’ll still find a 350 V8, but one that has been smacked down to a mere 170-175hp(depending on which 350 this has), with 270lb-ft of torque. There are notes of some “performance upgrades,” but the seller does not specify what that entails. Based on the drivetrain, the 1979 was certainly capable of withstanding more power, so it would be interesting to see what upgrades are involved. A sporty suspension with special shocks, front and rear stabilizer bars, and a low profile gives this a solid road feel on the back roads. Transmission-wise, the optional TH350 automatic will get you effortlessly running your errands during the week, and hitting car shows on weekends.

If you were in high school in the late 1970’s, a good portion of you may have owned one of these Camaro’s.  If you did, and you are looking for one today to relive those yesteryear’s, they are considered to be one of the more affordable classics. One in such excellent condition with just 41,500 miles will certainly demand price tags of $20K+, but that’s a modest range compared to many others. I would reach out and request more pictures of that engine bay, and if it checks out as being an original numbers matching V8 and looks clean, this could be a solid classic to add to the family.

Brings back a lot of memories (hazy ones!) for this old Hillbilly! Lack of T-Tops is the only thing that would stop me from pulling the trigger on this beautiful car.
