Assembly Required: 1958 Edsel Roundup Wagon
Here’s another black and red station wagon that Peter R found for us. This wagon couldn’t wagon couldn’t be more different than the Chrysler Town and Country I just wrote about. This Edsel is listed on eBay with a BIN of a lofty $14,500. These are rare cars, but once again, unless there is great demand for a car it is not going to be valuable. It’s located right across the river from me in Davis, California. There is said to be only a little rust. The seller has had the chrome redone and the stainless polished. It will need a complete interior. The paint scheme was actually offered on this model. Here’s and example of what this would look like when complete. On one of those car shows they’d round this thing up and have it done in a few days. I’m thinking without the magic of television this project will take a little longer.
The dash has a fresh coat of red but not much else. Hopefully everything is still with it!
This 390 is not original but it was running when the project was started.
There are a lot of parts included with this Edsel but there are likely some of parts missing as well as the glass and interior. Besides assembly, sourcing parts and and installing an interior there will be electrical and suspension work. If the paint and body work was done well and if there is not much rust and if the parts are mostly complete could this be a worthwhile project at some price? The seller will be losing money but the question is how much will he be able to lose? The finished car could be really nice but not worth top money because the engine and drivetrain are not original. Your comments on this wagon will be very interesting.

I like it (for an Edsel). I am a fan of Wagons, so I am partial. It has potential, and will look great when finished. I dig this color scheme. I would change the wheels however. They are not period correct. Maybe some vintage Torque Thrust. The 390 will handle this wagon with no problem.
Price seems a bit high for what you get. This is the only thing I could find.

you could easily have more than that in it at this stage.
I’d find a “57 or “58 Ranchero and bolt on the front end sheetmetal of this car and graft the tailight assemblies on the rear quarters and make myself an Edchero.

I’m a fan of 2-door wagons in general; this one is a beauty (if an Edsel can be a beauty)! Wouldn’t have gone with a 390, but I guess I could live with it…price seems fair, though I’m not in the market. Nice project for someone to finish.
the 390 is the same FE family as the original 361 and can be dressed up to look the same.
True, Mike, but my experiences with 390’s back in the day weren’t great. I would have picked something lighter and higher-revving, maybe a 5.0 Coyote…anyway, I can’t afford it! I’m sure it would be fun to have, 390 or not!
I’d put Ltd front clip and new crate5 litre,smooth 70mph all day and decent on fuel
Without seeing this in person it looks like a verry good deal.Its a 2dr wagon,all the hard and expensive work looks like its done.It has a 390 with a 4spd whats not to like about this car .At $14,500.00 this is a Bargain.This guy has alot more than that into this car thats for sure.The description says its one of less than 1000 two door Edsel wagons ,you.would think it would have been worth more $ if it had been restored.Oh well it will be one sweet Hot Rod once its finished.
they only made 963 and less than half of that left makes this a very rare and desirable model. it could still be restored.
