Arkansas Barn Find: 1964 International Scout 80
Vintage Broncos have been escalating in value dramatically over the past decade. When Ford re-introduced the “New Bronco” for the 2021 model year, it made vintage Bronco prices go even higher. For those of you that can’t afford a six-figure project, a vintage International Scout like this one might be a good alternative. It can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $29,000. Currently located in Oceanside, California, the seller says this Scout is an Arkansas barn find. They have sixty years of paperwork in a binder from the original owner! Let’s take a look.
Just like the outside, the interior features a nice patina with a base of battleship grey paint. You can see a nod to the Arkansas history of this Scout with the license plate mounted on the trans tunnel. There aren’t a ton of photos in the ad for this rig, but you can tell it looks pretty solid. Hopefully, the seller will provide more pictures upon request from a serious buyer.
The nice thing about a Scout (like its Bronco cousins) is the removable hard top. As you can see in this photo, this one comes with both a hard top and a soft top. The seller says the seat covers match the top and they have added new tires as well. Overall, this looks like a pretty solid Scout with great patina. What do you think?

What do I think? I know what I said about prices, and try to be cordial, just in case Joe Owner chimes in, but honestly, does anyone really think this is worth $30grand? It’s actually comical to see how far this madness will go, and this is a glaring example, right here. Just for gits and shiggles, how much do you think this person paid for this? MAYBE a grand? Shlepped it back to Californy, with $$$$ signs in their eyes, another grand, put in a new turn signal flasher,( sarcasm) and gave the dial a spin. Why so upset? Just don’t buy it, you say,, yeah, well, duh, but what happens, is EVERYBODY thinks these are worth a fortune( to me), I’m tired of picking on California, but they clearly live in a different world. I passed an older Scout for several years here, better than this, one day, they were loading it on a trailer, I said, want to sell it? Sure, the guy said, $15grand! It took all I had to keep from laughing in his face,,,
Retired? Not from here, I hope. Don’t leave us, Howard!
Yes, California is a different place…you can drive down the street in your unrestored car and NOT see the road go by under your feet. Just because he is selling it in California doesn’t mean it is a rust-free California vehicle.
This should be on Bring a Trailer,I’ll bet it would
sell for $50,000 there.
I’m so tired of all the greediness nowadays.
The original Scouts were very primitive vehicles as were most early/mid 60s trucks. If this was a fully restored vehicle I could see the price nearing $25k, but in raw, unrestored condition, this is a non-starter. Later Scouts were much less primitive and more desirable by most. These prices lately almost beg me to test the market with my 1964 Studebaker Daytona convertible!
This is really nice $4000 Scout. And I’m being generous on the price.
Maybe $5-6k, depending how it runs. Remember, it’s in LA, where there is a lot money chasing a limited supply.
I’m not sure why people get so be worked up about unrealistic prices, this is nothing new. Since the early-80’s first with AutoTrader, then online with various websites such as CL, BaT, eBay, you name it, have been full of ads like this. It used to be you’d just shake your head, maybe laugh a little at how out of touch the seller was then turn the page. Now people rush to sites like this so they can scream at the top if their lungs how ads like this are leading to the downfall of humanity. It’s performative now, often it’s just a way to for generally mean and nasty people to pretend they are virtuous by being self righteous on a public platform.
This international will never sell for anywhere near his asking price. In six months when his neighbors are tired of looking at it he’ll either take an offer that’s a fraction of the asking price or trade it for something else and try again.

Really nice Scout – would take it anyday over the (in my eyes) absolutely ugly Bronco –
And by the way – if this site makes you angry und upset it’s maybe time to retire from joining

Officer – “License plate?”
Driver – “Here you go”,after retrieving it from under the dash.
Had one of those back in the 80s paid maybe $600 for it–needed a clutch-changed in my garage–did some bodywork and had painted at Maaco for something like $129—looked better than this one when I got it—kept a few years and moved it on. Very primitive vehicle to drive—not worth $29k if it was new in a crate!
I wish this was worth $30,000. If it was my 70 aristocrat project would be worth $60,000
I had a sky blue 64 Scout in Arkansas back in the mid 70s. It was a great vehicle from which many fun stories were born. It would damn near climb trees with its V6 and lock out hubs. It drove reasonably, if not loudly, on the hwy and got terrible gas milage. I even lived in it for a few tough months going to college on the GI Bill. But anything over $12K is stupid. It’s a fun rig but too aged to function in a daily capacity. It should have stayed in the Ozarks and lived out its days with dignity. A workhorse shouldn’t stable with show ponies.
V6 in a Scout? Must haven been some type of engine swap. In ’64 they only came with a 4 cylinder or a V8.
I had a Scout when I worked on a 32 square mile island it was also a 64 beat to death in the 80s but good enough to throw a surfboard or snorkle gear in then fill the back end with lobster and beer. Im in the Ozarks right now folks here are very proud of there old junk theres a fellah down the road that has a Crewcab IH hasnt run in years, ive loaned him some tools and helped him keep his primary buick Park Avenue working, I asked him the other day when I went to work on his tractor if he would sell it he imideatly thre the number of $11,500 I did laugh and said no way. But I did find a fairly rust free 66 AMC American Wagon for just at 1000, its now running im consider listing it for $28..hundred whisky dent in the drivers rear is no charge haha.
Get that AMC wagon.I saw 5 AMCs listed somewhere for
over $100,000 each.
